Did you know your clutter can make you money?

As you look around your house, do you see stuff cluttering up your life?  Do you say to yourself, "I wish I could get rid of clutter, but…

…a yard sale takes too much time and it's a hassle!"

…I paid good money for my stuff and I hate just giving it away."

…eBay charges a fee just to list my item and that’s money I don't have."

…the local consignment store wants too much commission."

…local classified listings require me to interact with buyers and deal with money."

So, if none of the above are good options,
what is a good way to make money selling all your stuff?

WHY NOT DO AS I DID?

When I was getting ready to make a cross-country move from Atlanta to Los Angeles in 2001, all I saw was clutter.  How did I end up with all this stuff?  First there were the books that were so heavy (and would cost a fortune to move.)  Then there were CDs - some of which I had duplicates!  Plus, there were household items like a blender (still in the box), CD players in perfect condition, toys (I had stashed as gifts and then forgot to give), and tons more.

Now, this was all stuff I paid good money for, and I simply couldn't just "give it away."

Besides, I needed the extra money to pay for my move across the country!

As an avid purchaser of items on the web, I found that I could sell my "stuff" in a variety of places.  Yet, some of them were simply not options!

  • I didn't want to use eBay because they require a fee just to place a listing, and regardless of whether or not my item sells, I still have to pay the fee.  Plus, it's a complete shot in the dark that someone might stumble across my item among so many "stores" now allowed on eBay (some selling large quantities of the same things).  In other words, finding my item would be like finding a needle in a haystack.  IMPORTANT NOTE: On February 20, 2008, eBay RAISED THEIR PRICES!!! They have lowered their insertion fee (by .05 cents) but have increased the amount they take when you sell an item!!!  Click here to see their new fee structure.

  • While I like Craig's list, I didn't want the hassle of having to list my items on an ever-changing list... watching my items move down and down and down and competing with other items that were not even similar to mine!  Plus, there would be answering all the incoming emails/phone calls, having someone come to my house or meeting them at a common location, and the security of physical money exchange.  (Too much hassle for me, thank you very much!)

When I looked around, I found something that sent up a light bulb and made me say, "Here's a good option."  Here's the list of reasons why:

  • My item would sit side-by-side with the primary sellers items.

  • There was no fee to list my item for sale.

  • The fee I would be charged upon sale of my item was very reasonable.

  • All the shipping fees charged to the buyer were directly passed to me.

  • My item would stay listed for 90 days with the option to continually relist it with just a few clicks.

  • All the payments were collected by the primary seller which meant I never had to deal with receiving payments from a buyer.

  • I received my payments every 2 weeks (or even sooner, if I requested).

BINGO!  This was my answer.

After I had mastered the sellers process (and read more about that, below), it only took me a few minutes to list my items for sale.  Initially, I gathered up books and CDs.  But then I started to find other items around my house (like a very expensive blender I had used once) and discovered I could sell those as well.  The best part about all this was that I could sell my item regardless of the condition: new or used.  For those items that were perfect, I could list my item right along side the primary sellers brand new item...but for less money!  What seller wouldn't buy my item when it was cheaper?

Within only a few days, I had my first sale.
And, today, over 95% of the items I list sell within 24 hours.

Since that first sale in 2001 – and considering I sold nothing in 2004, 2005, and part of 2006 – I have made over $6,500 as a PART TIME, CASUAL SELLER!  And the money I made was just selling small priced items: e.g., books, CDs, and DVDs.  I did list one big ticket item (a big screen TV) for $1,500 and even had a buyer.  (Unfortunately, we discovered the TV didn't fit in his living room.  However, that would have been another profitable sale otherwise!)

Every two weeks, I receive payment for all items sold during the previous two weeks.  It's like a getting a regular paycheck!

Now, if you had to figure out how to do this on your own (like I did) it would take hours.  In fact, it did take me hours.  I searched and searched and DID NOT FIND ONE BOOK OR WEB SITE THAT TOLD ME, IN DETAIL, EXACTLY HOW TO DO THIS FROM BEGINNING TO END.  Yes, I did find lots of web sites that gave me tidbits here and there and general information, but nothing that showed me step-by-step how to do this.  In fact, when I was writing this book (and I'm a professional writer with 25 years of experience and have been using this selling process for years now), it took me over 8 hours to figure out how to do everything required from beginning to end.

With my new book, Decluttering for Dollars™: Clear Your Clutter, Make Some Money, Change Your Life, I have taken away all the "guesswork" so that you can be selling in under an hour.  I share my process in an easy-to-follow format that includes step-by-step instructions with pictures that anyone can understand.

My experience has been that most people aren't even aware of the many ways they can see this stuff.  And this way is really easy!  That's one of the reasons why I wrote this book.  Well that...and the fact that there is no instruction manual like this anywhere.

With my book, it's like having your own personal instructor!  And think about this: if you had to take a training session to learn how to do this (if you could find one), it would take 4-5 hours out of your day, cost between $59 and $199, and you would have to leave your house to learn.  Now, isn't the purpose of selling from home so that you can save TIME and MONEYOrdering my eBook takes only minutes (saving you TIME) and costs only $8 (saving you MONEY)

Here's what people have to say about my process...

"I had no idea I could sell anything without a lot of hassle.  Cindy's book showed me how even someone like me – who knows very little about the computer – can sell things I no longer want.  Plus, the book was so inexpensive.  I've already made back the price of the book!"
~Debbie Johnson (Ventura, CA)

"I checked out my ‘local’ new age bookstore as a place to take the books I no longer wanted.  They sell my books at half their list price and give me half of what they make.  But, they give me a credit for their store, not cash.  I then checked my titles and even if I listed them below the lowest price for each title, I’d get more for them – and it’s in cash – which I prefer.  Plus, the bookstore is almost an hour drive away, making Cindy's process so much more convenient."
~Vicky White, Life Design Strategies (www.LifeDesignStrategies.com).

"My bookshelves were full of books that I just had to keep - or so I thought.  When I realized I could turn all those books into money just by using my computer, I couldn’t wait to get started.  In the past 3 months, I've made over $500!"
~Angela Baxter (Alpharetta, GA)

"I'm not very good on the computer.  But this book really made it easy. I just followed each step and I had my account up and running in only 45 minutes.  I sold all the DVDs that I know longer wanted, along with some tools that I received as gifts and never used.  On some of these items, the shipping credit I received was more than the actual shipping cost.  That meant more money in my pocket - just as this book said!"
~Stephen Pulford (Jacksonville, FL)

Now, I'm not promising you'll make a 6-figure income.  In fact, selling by this means is only something you should do if you want to supplement your income.  However, it's the ideal way to both clear your clutter, make some money *AND* change your life!  This money can then be used for something special: a shopping splurge, an evening out at a nice restaurant, a special vacation, or even a down payment on a car!  There's no saving money out of your paycheck.  There's no maxing out your credit cards.  This money is almost like finding buried treasure – and it is right in your own home!
